Back in 2006, current staff members Chris Balazic and Matt Tomich had poked at the idea of creating a website dedicated to the Gamecube best-seller Super Smash Bros. Melee. However, with its sequel, Super Smash bros. Brawl, recently announced they decided to direct their idea at it instead. On November 16, 2006, Brawl Central, a SSBB fansite, was born. After a year of updates posting all tidbits of news available, the site became overnight hit in December 2007 when it became the first English-based site to feature leaked information/photos from a Japan-exclusive magazine. As Brawl Central continued to gain popularity with its new Brawl information, scores of emails were pouring in each day, requesting a forum be made. On January 14, 2008, the community was born, with thousdands of users registering within its first week of life.
Naturally, as a fansite for a Nintendo game, the community had a huge Nintendo following. That summer, Founder Chris made the decision to expand the site's focus to cover all Nintendo news. As most users were pleased with the focus on their favorite gaming company, it became apparent that many wanted to discuss other games from Microsoft, Sony, and PC.
To appeal to the ever-expanding discussion and interest in all sortsd of video games, another rebirth was put into the works. In January 2009, VG District was launched. While still pulsing with the same community since it's days as Brawl Central, VGD featured some minor additions and expansions to its pre-existing systems. Months later, more ways for the community to enjoy itself began popping into the staff's heads. The site kept all its data and content, but revamped the structure of the site to allow further custimzation.
In December of 2009, the decision to restart the entire site from scratch was made, and so began the construction of what you see today, and will tomorrow.
